Caledonian road’s identity exists in tension. The affluent East vs. The West, crime vs. the community vs. privatisation. A street surrounded by movements trying to improve the reputation and lives of the inhabitants, yet is still polluted by it’s ignominy.

The organisations (phoenix pottery, jean stokes centre, copenhagen youth project) aim to reduce crime/ improve living standards by making knowledge and communication between the different communities more accessible. Offering community driven activities at little to no costs. A movement towards the commons.

Flattening the hierarchical structure that a capitalist society praises/ demands. Flattening the division between the educated and the non-educated, the old and the young by legitimising everyone’s way of knowing. But can we avoid the pressure of dominant institutions? Avoid an over-privatisation? To allow all members of the community to feel an equal freedom/ ownership of their environment.

A need to redistribute decision making and ownership; through the widespread access of knowledge. Telling the stories of the community, of the buildings, of the institutions that work towards egalitarianism.

I will be creating stamps: which in turn will be used to imprint bricks throughout the main street, filling gaps, creating a new landscape which encompasses everyone’s perspective. Telling stories. Sharing knowledge.
